Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar seem to have reached an understanding amongst themselves to bring down Shah Rukh Khan from his No. 1 ranking in Bollywood. According to sources, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar met together for dinner a few days ago in order to discuss their common action plan to dethrone Shah Rukh Khan from the No. 1 spot. Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar do not consider each other rivals or competition since both of them have a different image and do different kind of films. While Aamir Khan is known as Mr. Perfectionist and does only one film at a time in a year, Akshay Kumar has made a niche for himself in comedy and action films which are complete entertainers.
At the Star Screen Awards held a few days ago, Akshay Kumar who was given 'The Most Popular Actor' award, said that it was Aamir Khan who was more deserving of that award. Everyone knows that Aamir Khan never attends any film awards function.
In 2008, both Aamir Khan and Akshay have closed the gap between them and Shah Rukh Khan as far as the race for the No. 1 spot in Bollywood is concerned. Akshay Kumar had a number of continous hits in 2008 and Aamir Khan was also the toast of Bollywood with his critically acclaimed movie 'Taare Zameen Par' and the superhit action film 'Ghajini' which has already crossed Rs. 225 crores collections worldwide (the highest in Bollywood so far).
While Shah Rukh Khan's movie 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' did not have a spectacular run judging by SRK's own high standards, Akshay Kumar's just released movie 'Chandni Chowk to China' also does not seem to have had very encouraging collections in the first 3 days. But Akshay Kumar has benefited from the extensive publicity of the film and continues to be in the public eye.
It remains to be seen how Shah Rukh Khan reacts to this new development, considering the fact that he has two new releases 'Billoo Barber' and 'My Name is Khan' in 2009.
The war for the title of 'King of Bollywood' in the year 2009 has well and truly begun! Watch this space for more!
