Saina on track to retain crown

Saina on track to retain crown

hyderabad, June 26: Defending champion Saina Nehwal stormed into the final of the Indonesian Open Super Series on Saturday defeating Japan’s Eriko Hirose 21-9, 21-10 in Jakarta.

It took her 27 minutes to finish on the right side of the result, which gives her a chance to notch up a hat-trick of titles.

Before winning the Singapore Open last week, Saina had won the Indian Open Grand Prix on home turf.

The world number three will now face another Japanese — Sayaka Sato, who ended the superb run of local qualifier Ana Rovita with a 21-19, 21-14 win in the other semifinal.

With the scintillating performance at the on-going Indonesian Open Super Series tournament, Saina is just a step away from defending her 2009 title.

“I am feeling good at the moment,” said Saina, in a press statement released by the Pullela Gopichand Academy, after her semifinal victory.

“The initial rounds were tougher because it took time to adjust to the conditions. I am happy with the way I played and I am looking forward to play well in the finals too,” she said.

“Well, I think the finals is going to be a good match. Though I have played Sayaka Sato (Japan) before and beaten her, she has improved in her game. So I am looking forward to it,” said Saina.

Even after continuous tournaments, Saina is charged to achieve her goal. “Physically, I was little tired in the initial rounds but now I seem to be feeling better. Mentally, I am motivated and aiming for a victory tomorrow,” she added.

About the pressure with the new milestone — being World No.3, she said, “I am playing well right now. Currently I am not thinking about my ranking. I am concentrating on my practice and game.
